Field Studies

TLC School students and teachers enjoy many field studies each school year.  The K/1 students often visit local businesses, including a bank, the bakery, a cabinet maker’s workshop, the doctor’s office, and the veterinarian.  Students in grades 2/8 take a two-night end-of-the-year class trip.  Past destinations have included Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC; Chattanooga, TN; Charleston, SC; and Jekyll Island, GA; and Wirtz, VA..  These students also enjoy a two-night camping trip each fall.

The following is a list of locations we visit at least once every three years, if not more often:  The Health Adventure, Asheville Arboretum, Nature Center, Asheville Community Theater, Mount Mitchell, Black  Mountain Fire Department, Black Mountain Police Station, Black Mountain Library, Earthaven Ecovillage, Colburn Gem and Mineral Museum, Thomas Wolfe House, Asheville Airport, Highland Farms, UNCA, Flat Rock Playhouse, Warren Wilson College, and the Folk Art Center.
